IL-2 1946 redux to 4.09

Postby Wilcke on Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:57 pm

Well this is certainly a surprise. I stopped flying IL-2 this spring. Since they introduced the modded Universal Installer 1.1 at the AAA community I was just not interested in a modded IL-2. Now all the servers on HyperLobby have different variations and each needs certain files. In short the community has framented and the fun is gone for me!

So when I went to read SimHQ I found this Q&A, quite impressive! Enjoy!

Heads up. 4.09m has been released as a 567mb executable along with a corresponding skin pack about 256mb in size. This brings IL-2 full circle to a finished product and Team Daidalos the current group that has worked on this incessantly for the past year has even more content to be released. More later!

Well the 4.09m official is out and I have installed it. I really do like having a clean and finished IL-2 1946. Its still a great WWII sim although very long in the tooth. If you are into the AAA Community Mod Package version 1.1.1 it has been updated to 1.1.2 but its not compatible with the official 4.09m released the DT Team.

I was seriously thinking of getting back into flying but the community is small and fragmented. You go onto hyperlobby and there a multitude for folks flying all kinds of versions so the options are very limited.

At this point in time I am working on rebuilding my gaming rig to current hardware and will probably get into Rise of Flight although its server capabilities still need fine tuning. More on this later probably will be rebuilding in December or January depends on other projects that I have in the works.

Well now 4.10 is in the works and will be out shortly in the next few months. Will have a linky up later! I wish the community would drop the mods and just go back to stock version. As it is now there are three different mod packages and a multitude of servers running a plethora of mods. This means that if you are a lets jump on Hyperlobby and see what is up, you will out of luck as your version has to be compatiple with the server. This really sucks, has divided up the community and IL-2 is no longer what it once was! I really hate it because aside fromt he subs it was my number one addiction on the computer. Now I am a junkie without a fix.

Wilcke,

Please tell how you REALLY feel, stop pussy footing around what we all know you really want to say!

I am not much of a online player probably cause I do not like cheats and sadly there are too many. IL2 was so canned I hated it, I do have it and would fly it every now and then in QB mod as it has as much depth as the career mode.

I did like what I saw in the 4.09 update. Anyway I have with the promise of the removal of the requirement to be 'always online' dived in to RoF as it was $22 Australian, lets hope that the career mode ends up being shyte crap like IL2.
Cheers,

Teddy Bär

Well nothing last forever, and I quote a very good friend now gone forever; "sooner or later it all ends in disaster'.

Looks like the next patch for RoF will remove the online check for single player mood.

Now I am getting ready to rebuild my old dog so that I am ready for the release of SOW: BOB if it is released this year!

The number one reason that Oleg had against mods (except maybe the ability to sell new stuff) was the risk of dividing the MP community. Without an integrated mod handler... thats what happens.

I used to fly online in the pre-1946 times. But I did it with a squad (D13th). You come and go as a group, join virtual wars, etc. Cheaters? Yeah, maybe I saw a couple. But my skill was not high enough so that I could complain...

Teddy, IL2 may have a bland campaign, but online, it was something else. I might return to it soon, and my boys should tell me all about the mods I need.

@elanaiba,

So true and the community has split and dwindled with the 'cracking' of IL-2 the spawn of mods has inundated the community. Even the most organized of online wars has succumbed to trying this mod then that one. I was hoping that with the official release of 4.09m the community would go back to the original. But no runnning mods is an addiction, for me its just a pain. IL-2 is just fine with original game and the latest 4.09m patch for online squad vs squad wars or DF servers. No mods needed its all about the flying.

I am looking forward to Olegs SOW: BOB, that is going to be an awesome sim! Lets fly!

Interesting update today:

Quote:
Development Update - 2010-05-20

Dear IL-2 fans. We would like to inform that after several months of negotiations with Oleg, Ilya and MG/1C management, our team has signed a non-exclusive license agreement. Basically this agreement will give Team Daidalos full access to all assets related to the sim, but our work still remains non-commercial. Most important assets for us now is the SFS tools so that we can build the patch independently and don't need to sacrifice MG team's precious time. Also this will speed up the releasing process, since we can do a new build ourselves if we find bugs from release candidate build.

This past month we have been learning the use the new tools which has taken some time. Also we had to build up a proper codebase for the tools and overall adjust our ways of working. So please have patience and excuse us for the delay. We still do this for free as a hobby and not from 9 to 5 and probably everyone has had less time to give to TD than they wanted to give. Good news is that we don't have any major bugs open. Just some integration work left, finishing some WIP default skins, adjusting some small things and testing that we didn't break anything.

Video for today doesn't have any single theme, but it's more like random picks of things not shown on video before. Enjoy!

As old as this sim is its still has a hold on me! I am currently flying with a blue squad in the new online war called Ghost Skies, the new DF maps are awesome with an ongoing moving ground war, the front line see-saws back and forth, your airfields get over run and you have to go land elsewheres, all in all an awesome time for an old sim!

Enjoy the update, catch us at Ghost Skies! http://www.ghostskies.com/forum/ http://www.ghostskies.com/index.php
